DOCOMOMO is the international working party for the DOcumentation and COnservation of buildings, sites and neighbourhoods of the MOdern MOvement.  Initiated by the University of Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in 1988, it is the most significant non-governmental organisation of experts devoted to the history, preservation and reassessment of modern architecture.  Its first conference was held at Eindhoven in 1990.  International interest was strong and DOCOMOMO soon had more than 40 working parties throughout Europe, the Near East, and North and South America, each compiling a register of modern buildings, sites and neighbourhoods for its geographic area and promoting the documentation and preservation of registered items.
